Wasco County animal control position eliminated

A representative of Wasco County told me today that the county eliminated the position of animal control officer after long-time officer Brad Heinige retired last year.  That means Wasco County residents outside of The Dalles must call the county sheriff at 541-506-2580. Residents of The Dalles should call the Police Dept. at 541-296-2233, which has a part-time animal control officer. Both phone numbers are permanently listed in the sidebar to the right.

Turning Christmas trees into salmon habitat

Here’s a win-win solution for salmon and people — sinking Christmas trees in salmon-bearing streams, as is being done by the Tualatin Valley chapter of Trout Unlimited. See the rest of the story at OPB’s Ecotrope.

Spay or neuter your pet: It’s the humane thing to do.
